Featured Project: Ecospex(Finally after 5 years of R&D we are launching!)
Ecospex Green Guide connects architects, designers and construction industry professionals to a powerful and easy-to-use online database resource of verified eco-information on products, materials and technologies. The Green Guide aspects of Ecospex arranges materials and components on an elemental basis enabling designers and specifiers to compare and select from comparable systems or materials as they compile their specification. Results are set out as an A+ to E ranking system, where A+ represents the best environmental performance / least environmental impact, and E the worst environmental performance / most environmental impact.
The Ecospex Green Guide is an on-line tool for green building materials - in its pilot phase – workshops will be developed throughout Canada to enable product manufacturers, construction and design firms to try the system please visit our pilot www.ecospex.ca
Blue Wilderness Facilitates The Entry of BRE Canada
After 15 years . . . . Julie Scarcella and Blue Wilderness Management Group Inc. have been selected to lead the launch of Building Research Establishment (BRE Canada Limited). The new venture, with offices in Toronto and Thornbury, Ontario, will be the first jump across the Atlantic for Britain's long-established expertsat BRE and will see Blue Wilderness devoting increased time to the exciting range of new Canadian products and services, while continuing to serve its existing clients. "This is a singular opportunity for us" Julie observes.
In the later part of 2005, Julie began her research efforts in the development of EcoSpex Canada that connects architects, designers and construction industry professionals to a powerful and easy-to-use online database resource of verified eco-information on products, materials and technologies. The EcoSpex Green Guide allows the users to easily interpret complex life cycle assessment (LCA) data and allows the comparison of different types of construction against each other. EcoSpex has the ability to sort through manufacturer’s criteria ranging from product type to technical review with accessibility to verified enhanced listings.
The EcoSpex system ALSO addresses the lack of effective tools for knowledge sharing and community creation within the green product industry, in particular the need for a well indexed organization of green products and a platform for users to update and discuss projects. As an on-line service, the system fills the gap for such a source with the creation, indexing and publishing a huge source of information. As well, it will be an evolving resource, adapting rapidly and appropriately to user demands.
We will be able to move Ecospex to launch with a more robust format, drawing upon the international experience of BRE. At the same time, the new company will introduce fresh, dynamic viewpoints and methodologies into the Canadian sustainability marketplace. New technologies allow us to share and develop the portfolio on a daily basis.
